aftermarket speakers question
Hi guys,
I'm thinking to upgrade my component speakers to some decent ones (maybe MB Quart), but from what I observe , M5's component speakers are not the same size as what are out there on the market ( 6" or 6.5 " ) , does anyone know the size of oem speakers ? thanks guys ! Will

Do yourself a favor and go hear a 5-series system at Reus Audio.
http://www.reusaudio.com/ There are a few board members, including myself, who have their system installed. It is excellent and makes the stock system sound like junk. Quote:

I
just had my system redone. The M5 actually has 4" speakers in the front
and rear and on the rear deck. I had three sets of 4" and tweeters
installed. Front and rear are MB Quart QSD 210's and Alpine top of the
line for the rear deck. I also added a JL W7 10" woofer. This is all
powered by an Alpine F345 (sound) and Alpine MRD 1005 for sub. The
sound is amazing, crystal clear. The installers went through a JL Clean
Sweep to give me an aux input for my ipod and to eliminate any engine
noise or difficulties with adding after market products.

If
you are in that price range, you should also audition the focal k2p. i
had them in a 993 cab for a while last summer and they were awesome.

I'm going to second jfenley on Reus
Audio. Not only is it a great sounding system, they'll move your system
to your next car for the cost of labor and keep the lifetime warranty
intact.
They're in Orange County, so you should at least call Rick and check out their shop. |

And
they design, engineer and manufacture their own speakers to their
specs. They played their speakers side-by-side with all of the other
leading speakers and there was no comparison - theirs sound not just a
little, but WAY better. Even if you don't go with them, you should at
least go hear one of their systems so you have a benchmark to compare
to.

Both.
It is a shop for high-end cars and they make a lot of their own stuff.
Price varies depending on what system you choose. Best bet is to call
them.
Basically, they tune your existing system and add an additional amp and speakers. Quote:

The
Q series MB Quarts sound amazing!!!!! Loud, clear and no distortion. I
have done many sound systems over the years, and I am most impressed
with MB Quartz's. The Q series is their top of the line. My dealer
quoted me over $1100 Canadian per pair, I got them on ebay for $497 US
each pair from caraudioshoppe@yahoo.com.

ok
, I went to Rues today and I listened to their speakers on a 6 series
and another on a 05 M5, guess what, I decided right away after I
listened to their speakers, I've heard many speakers out on the market
(Forcal, A/D/S, MB Quart, and so on) and the sound of their speakers is
one of the best I've heard, also their set up fits perfectly as if it's
stock, and the price and labor are really reasonable.
thanks for the recommandation, I can't wait to have it done ! Will |

I hope you got a chance to talk to Rick... he's a good guy.
You're not going to be disappointed. Which set up are you going with? Jfenley got the one with more bass (supposedly transitions to house/heavy bass more easily); I got the one with less and it's plenty for me. The only bummer is that it's tough to get an appointment sometimes, so book soon. We did 2 at once and still had to wait a few weeks to get in, but it was worth it. |

What type of costs installed are we talking about at Rues. Like $2K or $5K.
Thanks,

PPG4 : the set up i got is also the one with more bass,
and the price isn't bad , everything including installation with tax is about $3900, which is not bad at all for the sound quality it has. and yeah...it's all booked, they have like 60 cars waiting to be done.. ... but since i'm a local, so if they have any change, they'll let me know and squeeze me in, hopefully i can get it done soon !!! |

Very
cool. I'm glad you went to check it out. You will be really happy with
this system. When all is done, you will have a total of about 1000
watts of power -- and the best thing is that you can turn the volume up
to absolute max and there will be zero audible distortion. Clean sound
is the keyword.

remember.
when you get rid of this car. They charge a small labor fee to return
this car to stock and put in a new system in your next car.
Glad everyone likes what they've done. Pete
